Gesher

Seventh Grade Age Children

Gesher is the Hebrew word for Bridge as this class acts as the "bridge" between elementary education and the more advanced learning that will come with becoming a young adult (Hebrew High and Bar/Bat Mitzvah).

Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 - 6:15 PM. Students and their parents will also meet for an additional two hours on seven Sunday mornings either in the fall or the spring. Placement in this special class will be determined by Bar/Bat Mitzvah dates and attendance is mandatory. Rabbi Greenspan will lead this family education experience. Gesher students are required to attend 10 Junior Congregation services on Shabbat.  Upper Junior Congregation will meet from 9:30 - 10:30 AM on Saturday mornings.

This pre-Bar/Bat Mitzvah year is a varied one for our Gesher students. Hebrew and Siddur skills will continue to develop as students work directly from the Siddur. During the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Seminar students will have the opportunity to learn more about their Bar/Bat Mitzvah Parsha and Haftarah. In addition the classes will study the Holocaust. Gesher students will complete the Basic Judaism curriculum, which will explore topics such as Teshuvah, Derusha and Olam HaBa.

A family mitzvah project will be incorporated into the curriculum and speakers and field trips will be planned when appropriate. The Gesher class will also participate in the Adam Stark Memorial Fund program. This will entail a special program addressing decision making for teenagers.
