OJC, through its Beit Midrash, offers many classes and groups for our community. Please let us know if you are interested in joining or participating in any of them.

 Please note that the events mentioned below, are  dated 2012 / 2013;  are being updated to reflect the current 2014 / 2015 years. This is a sample of what we have presented in the past

Rosh Hodesh Group – For Women and Girls Only!

Rabbi Aviva Fellman, has started a Women’s Rosh Hodesh Group. All female members of the Synagogue ages 10+ are invited once a month to learn and celebrate what it means to be Jewish women through text, ritual and fun and unique activities.

Upcoming programs:

May 8th 8:15-9:15 PM

The topic is: Jerusalem, the Kotel and egalitarianism. (It also happens to be Yom Yerushalayim that day- the day when we celebrate the reunification of Jerusalem.)


Hebrew Reading for Beginners

Give yourself a present: read Hebrew by Chanukah! Join our Hebrew reading campaign and you will be participating in services like a pro and reciting the blessings for the Chanukah candles in no time. This year’s class will be taught by Iris Kubel. Times to be announced.


Bar Mitzvah Class

A new year is coming; plan for a glorious adventure. If you have never celebrated your Bar or Bat Mitzvah and can read Hebrew, join our 2013 Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah class for the journey of a lifetime.

Classes meet at OJC on Wednesdays from 7-8pm beginning October 24th, 2012 and run through Shavuot, Wednesday, May 15th, 2013. To register please email us.


Conversational Hebrew for Beginners

Gam attah midaber Ivrit! You too can speak Hebrew! Join Marilyn Greenspan as she makes conversational Hebrew fun. Required: a basic knowledge of Hebrew reading.

Beginning Monday Evenings, October 15 through November 19th in the Beit Midrash from 8:15-9:15 PM.


Bagels and Berachahs

You are invited to join us on special Shabbat mornings for a program that is both spiritual and physically satisfying. Following services, we join together for a Kiddush brunch and a provocative discussion with fascinating speakers. If you would like to sponsor a B&B luncheon, please contact Debbie Popick, 678-1272.

Following Shabbat Services on Nov 10th, Dec. 15th, Jan 26th, March 16th, April 13th, May 11th June 8rd.


Thursday Morning Bible Study And Book Discussion

Join us on Thursday mornings at 11 AM in the Multi-Purpose Room/Beit Midrash for an hour long Bible class with Rabbi Greenspan. This year we hope to finish the book of Isaiah and begin studying the book of Job – no previous knowledge required.

One Thursday each month is devoted to a book discussion. Please fill out a reserve form at the Oceanside Library or your local branch well in advance of the discussion. Selections for this year are:
