Monday evenings, from 7:00-9:00 P.M., our 8th through 12th graders have a chance to study with local Rabbis and educators in the company of their peers. The evening includes a chance to snack and schmooze with friends between classes. Students spend one period in a core curriculum class with others on their grade level and can choose exciting electives for the second period. These electives have included such topics as Sex in the Bible, Rapping with the Rabbi, Learning to Speak Hebrew, Jewish Values, and Culture.
The Central Hebrew High School for post Bar/Bat Mitzvah students is a dynamic program designed to give our teens an opportunity to stay involved in Jewish life. We recognize that there is a common ground for Conservative and Reform Jews that allows us to educate our teens together and to keep them involved in a dialogue on Jewish life.
Benefits of Central Hebrew High School
In Pirkei Avot we are taught to “Find yourself a teacher and make yourself a friend.” At first glance this may seem a daunting task in our over-programmed world. Here in Oceanside, we have a way to accomplish that goal for our teens in the CENTRAL HEBREW HIGH SCHOOL.
Our students come to CHHS from all over the greater Oceanside community. Participating synagogues include Oceanside Jewish Center and B’nai Shalom in Rockville Centre. In addition we welcome students with other affiliations from Long Beach, Oceanside, Baldwin and surrounding communities.
As a committed Jewish community, we celebrate, commemorate, and engage in gemilut hasadim, acts of loving kindness together. We have special programs to mark holidays and observances and bring exciting guest speakers to address our students.
