HaDelet: Purim Fun, Cuba, and the OJC Gala
Posted on February 15, 2013
We hope you all fared the snow last weekend in good condition and even had a chance to play in the snow or took it as a day of rest. Before we get to all of the Purim fun and opportunities, we want to give you two important events to keep in the back of your minds for the next two months.
In the middle of March, there will be a Congregation Meeting. We’ll give you the date as soon as we have it, but this is a very important meeting where our president talks about the state and future of OJC. All OJC members are welcome.
On April 28, 2013 is our annual OJC Community Gala, our biggest fundraiser of the year. Please mark your calendars; we’ll be providing you with more information as we get closer to the event.
But before we get to March and April, we still have a lot of fun left in February. The weekend of Purim is gearing up to be one of the most fun weekends at OJC this year, with activities from three major OJC ARMS–what we call our community groups. It is so BIG, in fact, we’ve created a special Purim Fun page on our website so you can see all of the activities and events.
It all starts with the reading of the Megillah, the story of Purim and Queen Esther. The Megillah reading starts at 6:30pm. Come wearing a costume!
Party following Megillah Reading: 8:30pm
Unlimited wine, beer, & soft drinks, Hors d’oevres, desserts, & dancing
Costume Contest with prizes
RSVP: Wendy Pusateri email@example.com or Judy Kagan 678-4860
10:30am – 1:30pm
Inflatables, games, prizes, food, raffles, and crafts
RSVP: Call 516.764.4213 or email PTA@oceansidejewishcenter.org
Volunteers are also needed to help out at the Carnival. Please use the above contact info to volunteer.
Taste delicious wines with our expert before the Megillah reading at 6:00pm and during the Purim Carnival. Wines can be ordered right then. Order forms will soon be available on the website as well.
How many times a year do you get to come to synagogue dressed up in costume and scream and yell when we say Haman? To say Purim is an experience is a little like saying New York City is a small town west of here.
We want to take a moment to wish Rabbi Greenspan, our president, Willie Gurman, and everyone who is traveling to Cuba representing OJC, an extremely safe and spiritual trip. Rabbi Greenspan will be hosting a discussion and sharing his experiences and photos about his trip on February 27.
We hope you are all doing well and please have a wonderful and restful Shabbat.
