HaDelet: Purim Video, Iron Chef Passover Style, and Gala Dinner
Posted on February 22, 2013
Good morning,
As excited as we are for Purim this weekend, we need to let you know that due to circumstances beyond our control, we have cancelled the Purim Ball for tomorrow night. However, there is still a lot of Purim fun to be had this weekend. Check out our Purim fun web page for more details, but here is the schedule for this weekend.
February 23 – Megillah Reading
The Megillah reading starts at 6:30pm. Come wearing a costume!
In between chapters there will be the world premiere of videos of our very own Religious School students singing the songs of others while using the language of Purim. For an incredible preview, check out this video created by Rabbi Aviva!
February 24 – Purim Carnival – OJC PTA
10:30am – 1:30pm
Inflatables, games, prizes, food, raffles, and crafts
RSVP: Call 516.764.4213 or email PTA@oceansidejewishcenter.org
Volunteers are also needed to help out at the Carnival. Please use the above contact info to volunteer.
February 23 and 24 – Annual Wine Tasting & Sale – Men’s Club
Taste delicious wines with our expert before the Megillah reading at 6:00pm and during the Purim Carnival. The list of wines and order form is on our website.
We hope to see you this weekend!
As we celebrate Purim this weekend, it is already time to start thinking about our next holiday; Passover! We will be having a number of events and activities around this holiday, but the first one we want to tell you about is the Iron Chef Passover Program, sponsored by our Sisterhood, on Tuesday March 12 @ 7:30pm. For more information, check out the flyer. The Sisterhood Judaica shop will also be open during the Purim Carnival on Sunday so you can start picking up your Passover necessities.
Community Gala
One of our biggest events, and our biggest fundraiser, of the year is coming up on April 28 at 5:00pm. We are extremely proud to announce this year we have three honors to bestow.
1. Leadership Honorees: Rabbi Aviva and Ari Fellman.
2. Outstanding Service Honorees: Helene and Bernard Kenner
3. Special Community Service Award: Arnie Preminger, President & CEO, Barry & Florence Friedberg JCC
Religious School Update
The Religious School recently had their monthly Family Chevruta discussion, where parents come in a little early and learn about a specific topic from Rabbi Aviva and then have time to review and discuss questions with their child. February’s topic was the Environment, but you can see all of the topics and the children’s responses and even a photo slideshow on the Chevruta page.
As we mentioned last week, in the middle of March, there will be a Congregation Meeting. We’ll give you the date as soon as we have it, but this is a very important meeting where our president talks about the state and future of OJC. All OJC members are welcome.
If you didn’t see this great photo of our very own Rabbi Greenspan davening in the airport before the OJC mission to Cuba, it is worth a look (and check out our Facebook page, where it was first posted by our president, Willie). Rabbi will be back early next week and will be hosting a discussion about his experiences and photos from his trip to Cuba on Wednesday, February 27 @ 8:15pm.
Have a very special Shabbat and Purim this weekend!
Shabbat Shalom and Chag Purim!
