The High Holidays are fast approaching. This means that it is time for OJC’s annual Kol Nidre Appeal.

As many of you may not be aware, membership dues, school tuition, and other fees combined barely cover half of our synagogue’s operating expenses. We must rely on fundraising activities such as the Kol Nidre Appeal in order to maintain the programming and services on which all of us have come to depend. The success or failure of the Kol Nidre Appeal, in turn, relies on you, our members.

OJC has almost 400 families. We’re hoping each of you will raise your hand, no matter the amount. OJC will get through these financial challenges, just like we all will. We will get through together, because of the community we have created and nurtured over the years. We will get through because so many believe in OJC, because so many give their time and yes, their money, to give breath to our living Kehillah.

We’re asking you today to give, not a specific amount, but an amount. If you can give $500, thank you very much. If you can give $18, thank you very much. What if almost 400 families gave $10 more than last year? What if everyone who did not participate last year, gives $54 this year? Obviously, the more you can give the more it helps, but as with so many things in our busy lives, something is better than nothing. We are hoping to stand before our congregation during the High Holidays and report not the amount of money raised, but that all of us contributed and participated in this annual tradition, that 100% of our incredible community stood up.  Just join us in some way, because every amount matters and makes a difference.

Of course, if you have already made your Kol Nidre donation separately, or through your participation in the “Friends of OJC” program, please accept our special thanks for your generosity and your commitment.

This year, we have made it even easier to make your Kol Nidre pledge and donation. We are now pleased to offer you the option to donate to OJC via PayPal (where you can use your PayPal account or your credit card).

Oceanside Jewish Center – Membership

Of course, if you prefer, you can still mail a check to us at the above address. If you wish to make your pledge now but pay it out over the remainder of the year, simply call the office at 536-6112, ext 12, or send an email to You will also find silent pledge cards on your seat during Kol Nidre services on September 25.

We know you value all our synagogue has to offer, and share our commitment to maintaining OJC as a beacon of Conservative Judaism on the South Shore. A successful Kol Nidre Appeal will allow us to do exactly that, so that we can insure that many more families for decades to come can delight in the special experiences that have come to mean “growing up at OJC.”
